KIPCO Sponsors Dyslexia Awareness Campaign

KUWAIT CITY (PRWEB) September 10, 2007

The campaign – which will include TV, cinema and press advertising – is being run in cooperation with the Masharee Al Khair charity and the Kuwait Dyslexia Association (KDA).

Dyslexia is a condition that affects, by some estimates, over 6% of the Kuwait population. Yet the condition is often not diagnosed and as a result many individuals go through their lives without treatment or specialist help. The KIPCO campaign aims to raise awareness among parents, doctors, teachers and the general public so that people with the condition get the help they need.

Mr Ahmed Huthayfah, General Manager of the KDA said:

“We are delighted that KIPCO and Masharee Al Khair have agreed to support this campaign. We want to raise public awareness about dyslexia and the problems it causes, because in many ways dyslexia is a ‘hidden’ condition that affects thousands of people who are unaware they have it. This campaign will highlight the huge obstacles and challenges that face people who have the condition. Perhaps the most important part of the campaign is to emphasize that dyslexia is not a disease, but a condition that with the proper treatment can be significantly reduced.”

Mr Huthayfah explained that the KDA was established to increase the public awareness of dyslexia and encourage systematic research of dyslexia in Kuwait.

Mr Abdul Aziz Al Jassar, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Masharee Al Khair said that:

“As one of the leading charity associations in Kuwait, Masharee Al Khair helps and supports many different projects in Kuwait. This campaign will help many people recognize that they are not alone and can get the treatment they need.”

Ms Abeer Al Omar, KIPCO Corporate Communications Assistant Vice President, said that:

“KIPCO decided to sponsor this dyslexia awareness campaign because we are a socially responsible company that is committed to the future of Kuwait. The evidence suggests that as much as 6.25% of children in Kuwait have the condition and so we must help this group of people deal with their condition through early diagnosis and proper treatment.”

Kuwait Dyslexia Association:

The Kuwait Dyslexia Association (KDA) was established in 1999 under the title of (Kuwait Dyslexia Centre) as part of Patients Fund Association, an existing charitable organization in Kuwait, in order to increase public awareness and encourage systematic enquiry in the field of dyslexia research. Over the years, the Kuwait dyslexia centre grew bigger in size and it became necessary to relocate its headquarters and change its name and facilities to cope with its new responsibilities, therefore, it is now called Kuwait Dyslexia Association (KDA) a welfare Kuwaiti association.

In November 2005, the Board of Directors of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) approved the KDA as a new International Global Partner. Both the IDA and the KDA share the same component of their mission statements; i.e. to disseminate current and appropriate information about dyslexia throughout the world.

The mission of Kuwait Dyslexia Association is to provide help, advice and support to individuals with dyslexia and their families within the Kuwaiti and Arab societies in order to overcome the challenges faced by many dyslexics.
